Today’s episode is another Financial Literacy Month conversation, this time with Money Coach Aqura Nicholson. Earning more money doesn’t automatically mean you know how to manage more money. This is something that both Aqura and I had to learn the hard way. In this episode, we talk about the lessons we have learned in our careers and wealth-building journeys. I share how deciding to buy a home was the catalyst that led to me doubling my salary in 10 months, and why this required an internal shift in how I think about money. Aqura emphasizes the need for intentionality in earning more money and the power of financial independence for our communities. We also discuss the misconceptions around working in tech and the transferable skills that can be leveraged to break into the industry.

    About today's guest:

Aqura Nicholson is a money coach empowering part-time and full-time women entrepreneurs to master their money right now, so it will serve them at the next income level. Motivated by her own family’s paycheck to paycheck cycle, it became her mission to break this generational cycle and show other women how they can do the same– even if they have debt, struggle with saving, or tend to be overspenders. Aqura makes money simple, easy, and unrestrictive by helping women to embrace a guilt-free approach to earning, managing, and spending money.

    92. Redefining Financial Freedom with Lizbet of @LizbetTalksMoney

    92. Redefining Financial Freedom with Lizbet of @LizbetTalksMoney

Exciting Announcement! I will be leading a salary negotiation workshop during the Riqueza Reimagined Virtual Summit on April 26th! Join my mailing list and stay tuned for a chance to win one FREE VIP Ticket!

Today’s episode is the second installment in my Financial Literacy Month series. Today’s guest is Lizbet Barajas of @LizbetTalksMoney. In this conversation, we talked about everything from paying off debt, to having way too many credit cars (hi, it’s me. I’m the problem, it’s me), to walking away from a job. Lizbet shares how she uses budgeting as a tool for financial freedom and how actually having a plan for your money is not restrictive but is actually a pathway to that financial freedom. As a career coach, I was personally impressed with how Lizbet levered her budget to make powerful career moves without lowering her standards or giving up her passion to travel.

    About today's guest:

Lizbet is a first-gen Mexican-American, mom of two, and money coach for moms. With the use of a budget and her travel hacking skills, she's paid off over $80,000 of debt while still traveling with her family.

    91. The Ugly Truth About Doubling Your Salary

    91. The Ugly Truth About Doubling Your Salary

This episode is a behind the scenes look at the struggles and insecurities I experienced when I more than doubled my salary in 10 months. I talk about the risk that I took in accepting a short-term contract position and how I was able to use that contract as an opportunity to break into and learn more about the tech sector.

With Financial Literacy Month kicking off this week, I wanted to acknowledge that it’s not always a knowledge gap. Sometimes you have all the information you need, but there might be deeply ingrained fears and limiting beliefs that are preventing you from taking action.
