Even though this story is a fictional, first person account of how Franzie (later known as Gidget) spent her summer with a fun new group of guys, this story championed Cass, the leader of the group that ordained surfing as the head of his life. Not even a job could stand in the way of him catching some waves. A classic beach bum, Cass was well respected, however. And his story is inspirational in championing everyone to believe in themselves.
