Collectivism: Its Influence on the Relationship Between Self-Compassion and Compassion for Others Sa Labas ng Classroom (Outside the Classroom)

    • Educação

Abstract: This moderation analysis described the compassionate experiences of Filipino students and identified the relationship of self-compassion and compassion for others, specifying the effect of collectivism on this link. Results showed that
Filipino students exhibit moderate self-compassion, mirroring their efforts to care for themselves but at times, struggling to do so. They were also found to be highly compassionate to others aligning with their high concern for others and group-oriented mindset. Correlational analysis revealed that self-compassion is positively associated with compassion for others (r = 0.41,
N = 367) but collectivism did not moderate their relationship. However, further exploration found that horizontal collectivism, a pattern of collectivism,
amplified the relationship between both (B = 0.32, p .001). In essence, the study shows how any care for the self extends to others with this effect strengthening if Filipino students strive for harmony and acceptance based on equality instead of authority.
