Stop Judging Your Work - The Reason Could Transform Your Life



In today's episode, I explore a topic that's been on my mind for a while - judging our own creativity and work. I have a love for art, specifically watercolor. I was cleaning my office, and I came across some of my art work from a few years ago buried in the office closet. I looked at it and thought, this is so fun, I love this! Then I thought, why didn't I share it with anyone. I realized that in the moment, it's really easy for us to judge our own work and to be hypercritical of it. Because of it, we scrap our ideas before we even give them a chance to be heard by other people who are further away from the process than we are.

So we're diving into how if you take the chance with a bit of safe, calculated risk in a trusted circle, perhaps you could be further along than you are today. We discuss what happens if you fail and what FAIL really stands for. Plus how you can implement this "stop judging your own work" mindset in your career to propel you even further than you ever thought.

Why you can never get things DONE! Plus the secret to TRUE PRODUCTIVITY in the cycles of our lives

Today I have an awesome topic for you. We're talking about cycles in our life that are just never done. The ones that keep going and going and going. I'm going to give you a mindset shift you can use if you're struggling to get things "completely done!" If you started out the year with good intentions, set goals or resolutions, and you've missed a day and felt like quitting on your goals because you didn't do things perfectly, I feel you. We talk about how it's okay to miss a day and how, in fact, your progress is still good progress. We talk about "all or nothing thinking" or "black and white thinking," and we also discuss how this is related to "cycles" in our lives. I share how I've struggled with laundry and how using this mindset shift that I share in this episode helped me actually get my laundry to a manageable place. You will leave today's episode feeling like you can get your shit that you need done without shame and without getting it completely done all the time.

My 2024 Word of the Year is "Approach." As I started analyzing how my leadership business, KFA Consulting, did in 2023, I started to learn the difference between Avoidance vs. Approach goals. I listened to the Mel Robbins Podcast with guest, Dr. Luana Marques, who explains how the solution to avoidance is to approach which is science based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). A few days into 2024, I heard Jay Shetty's, Daily Jay Wisdom on the Calm App. His lesson was called, "Run To, Not From." In his lesson he says, "Researchers describe two types of goals: approach goals and avoidance goals. Both can help you achieve your objectives, but when you're running toward something, you get more enjoyment and learning from your success." This has inspired me to really lean in, step up to the plate, be at the table, and "approach" my goals this year with a renewed sense of grace and excitement. I'm here to be present and enjoy the process of growing and nurturing a community around helping professionals, who are doing it all, get and stay organized plus feel confident and empowered in their daily activities.
