    Music & Art: Plastician Artist

    Music & Art: Plastician Artist

Over twenty years ago, he declared himself an Environmental Artist, joining a global artistic movement to raise awareness of our massive scale of consumption. One day, this Plastician Artist discovers that it’s not a consumption problem—Not at all!

This Plastician is an artist. He’s a Chef. He came into this world a Creative Spirit. His name is Daniel Lanzilotta.

    Our story begins here…

On a beach in Biarritz, France over twenty years ago.

“I was sitting on the beach watching my three-year-old son play. I would sit there and make little doohickeys from the junk that I found on the beach. Every time I went to the beach, I would see the same stuff over and over again. And then, I’d go to the beach by myself and I began to notice… How can this possibly be? The same things keep showing up!

A friend of mine was an Environmentalist at the age of ten. We lost her at eleven. I decided that I would carry on her vision. And I would make art and deem myself an Environmentalist. And then, I started making art again.

After twenty-plus years of delving into all aspects: from innocently sitting and watching my son, to being on the beach and making humble little sculptures, to creating very crazy pieces, to being in galleries… My name is out there across five different continents.

And as my work becomes more recognized, I understand that it’s not a consumption problem. It’s more a question of—Where did we go wrong? How did we become this lost?”

What an Artist Must Embrace To Become a Plastician Artist

    “You were born naked.

Everything that you’re going to put on that day has plastic in it.

You’re going to indulge in plastic a hundred times that day. If you drive, the entire interior of that car has plastic in it. A lot of the outside is plastic.

Plastic is everywhere. You don’t have to go far. It is always in the environment. We can’t get away from it. It’s addictive. It’s beautiful. It’s a beautiful naked woman. It’s enticing. It’s sensuous. It can take heat and be molded. It’s unbelievable! But it’s not so easy to get rid of it. And, it’s always going to be present.

To the artist that wants to work in plastics at the level that I’m working at—Start taking it and manipulating it. And, try to understand its potential as a means to have a discussion about NOT using it.

It’s about using art to begin a conversation. You don’t want to beat people over the head as an Environmentalist—Because people won’t talk to you.”
