Episode 73: Amy Tingay - runner and triathlete

On this episode we meet Amy Tingay. Amy is a 42 year old runner and triathlete living in England. She lost over 10 stone (140 pounds) between 2014 and 2018, pausing in 2016 to have her daughter. After the weight loss, Amy felt healthier but still unfit so she started exercising doing various different home workouts. She started running in December 2018 at a weekly Parkrun event, this quickly grew and Amy completed her first race, a half marathon, in September 2019. To date, she has completed 13 half marathons and started training for triathlon in 2021 with my local Triathlon Club. Amy joined Team Varlo in 2022 and have learned so much from her fellow athletes in both the club and the team. She completed her first sprint triathlon in May 2022. Amy has now completed 6 sprint triathlons and plans to increase the distance slowly over the next few years.

Episode 72: Lisa Cabiles - ultra runner, triathlete, and survivor

This week we talked with Lisa Cabiles. Lisa is a mother of 3, ultrarunner, and triathlete. After surviving a disabling illness, Lisa came out the other side with a strong resolve to live life to the very fullest. She has run 41 marathons to date, including completing the Boston Marathon in 2018, 2019, and 2020. More recently, Lisa has delved into the Ultramarathon and Triathlon worlds by completing multiple 50k, 50 miler, and 100 miler races while simultaneously training for IRONMAN 70.3 races.

Lisa finished the Boulder 70.3 IRONMAN and qualified for Worlds, as an age group winner. She also qualified for the 2023 Kona IRONMAN World Championships at the 2023 North American IRONMAN Championships in Texas. However, only 11 days before Kona, Lisa was hit by a reckless driver while on one of her last training rides. She is blessed to have even survived the accident suffering multiple skull fractures, a subarachnoid hemorrhage and hematoma, rib fracture, liver laceration, and pneumothorax. Grateful to be alive for her three children, Lisa hopes that as time goes on, she will be completely healed and be able to get back to running at the level she was before the accident and again compete in ultras. Thankfully God has given her a fighting spirit that has overcome so much in the past already.
