Episode 4: Plot and Plotting
Hello everyone! I'm sorry for missing my usual Monday upload. I was so sick to my stomach last night. There was no way I could record a video. I must have eaten something that didn't sit well with my stomach. I'm much better tonight!
Today is all about plot and plotting. It is by no means a well rehearsed or scripted video. I did use my Scribbler writing passport as a guide for this discussion.
If you don't know about Scribbler, it's a great little monthly book subscription box that I get. It comes with a book and some fun writer gifts as well as tips for getting your own story published.
Also, check out this great article on plot. It's where I found the 7 categories that a plot could fall into.
Anyway, I apologize again for how unpolished this video is but I wanted to make sure I got the information out to you guys without waiting too far into the week.
I hope you all enjoy it and are having a great week so far!
Happy Writing,
Annalisa -
Episode 3: Narrative and Character Arcs
Hello and welcome back for another episode of Octopus Ink.
Tonight we are talking about character and narrative arcs. These two elements of story telling are similar and often can be confused with each other.
There is a small section where I have a guest speaker tonight. My son makes a brief appearance to tell us his take on what makes a great story. The timestamp for this (if you wish to avoid it) is listed below.
3:15 - Austin is introduced
3:53 - I continue my discussion about character arcs
Here are some helpful links that can give you some even more information about narrative and character arcs.

Episode 2: Brainstorming
Hello and welcome back!
Today I want to talk to you about brainstorming. I'll give you a few tips that I find most helpful when it comes to brainstorming. I'm going to also include some links to a few websites that could also help.
10 Tips for a Successful Brainstorm
10 Tips for Effective Creative Brainstorming
8 Tips for Brainstorming Like the Best of Them
A lot of the tips repeat themselves, but each website has different suggestions on how to utilize those tips.
You can find brainstorming groups and writing workshops online, but ALWAYS be cautious when meeting with strangers from the internet.
If you have any questions or requests, please submit them on my website at https://www.annalisavivona.com/contact.html
I hope you enjoy this week's episode. Happy writing! -
Episode 1: Getting Started
In tonight's episode I talk about getting started as a writer and how to open your story.
There are two readings in this episode, each being about the first page of both books. I do not own the rights to these texts.
Example one is read from Graceling by Kristin Cashore
Example two is read from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling
Please check back same time next week for Episode 2: Brainstorming and Workshops.
