Hi there! Welcome to the Pens and Prosecco Podcast. I'm excited to sit down with fellow writers and discuss all stages of writing. Why am I doing this? Well, I believe the less alone a writer feels, the less likely they are to give up. Each episode, I'll chat with writers, hear their stories and then share them with you with the hopes you feel less alone on your own writing journey.

S1.E4: Weaving the love of History & Writing with Emily VanderBent

S1.E4: Weaving the love of History & Writing with Emily VanderBent

A note from the author: "And when you close the pages of this book, may you follow the example of the women in this novel and of the past who found the strength to throw a pebble into the water of their passion and make a difference." - Emily VanderBent.
Emily VanderBent is the author of Crimson Time, the first book in an exciting YA fiction series that combines the elements of history and time travel to tell the stories of women in the past. VanderBent's love for history shines in this stunning novel, as does her gift of vivid imagery. While reading Crimson Time, Vanderbent painted pictures on every page with words that made putting this novel down near impossible. On today's podcast, Emily talks about her writing journey, her love for history and Fractured Past; the sequel to Crimson Time.

S1.E3: The Benefits of a Book Coach, The Art of World Building & Scrivener with Katie Wall

S1.E3: The Benefits of a Book Coach, The Art of World Building & Scrivener with Katie Wall

Katie Wall is a book coach and editor at Craft Better Books, a company she and her husband founded with the goal of helping authors grow in their craft so they can do just that: craft better books. As a book coach Katie supports writers as they plan, draft, revise, or query their books. She's a cheerleader, accountability provider, and reflective listener for her clients.

Katie writes fantasy and is an avid reader in her spare time, which isn't much these days with two young kids and a small business. Her love of crafting reaches beyond the written word into knitting and DIY projects, but she is happiest when curled up with a good book, a fuzzy blanket, and her cat on her lap. While she has yet to complete a novel-length manuscript, she has big plans for writing a trilogy of trilogies and pursuing traditional publishing.

S1.E2: Literary Agents, BIPOC Representation in the Publishing Industry and Upcoming Book Releases with Katie Zhao

S1.E2: Literary Agents, BIPOC Representation in the Publishing Industry and Upcoming Book Releases with Katie Zhao

This week during my chat with Katie Zhao, we talk about her incredible writing journey, the importance of representation in the publishing world and why upcoming writers need to focus on searching for agents that will champion their work and future career. This episode is for new and experienced writers. I promise there's something in this episode for everyone! Katie shares advice, personal stories/experiences and how breaking apart her first draft again and again was so important before querying.

    Meet the Guest: Katie Zhao

Katie Zhao is the author of the Chinese-inspired middle grade fantasy The Dragon Warrior and its sequel, The Fallen Hero. She’s also the author of the forthcoming Asian American young adult thriller How We Fall Apart and middle grade sci-fi Last Gamer Standing. Katie grew up in Michigan, where there was little for her to do besides bury her nose in a good book or a writing journal. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA in English and a minor in political science (2017); she also completed her master’s in accounting there (2018). She is represented by Penny Moore of Aevitas Creative Management and is published with Bloomsbury, Scholastic, and Penguin Random House. In her spare time, Katie enjoys reading, singing, dancing (badly), and checking out new Instagram-worthy restaurants. She now lives in Brooklyn, New York.

    Pens and Prosecco Trailer

    Pens and Prosecco Trailer

Hi there! Wow! Thanks for finding the Pens and Prosecco Podcast. I'm thrilled you're here. My vision behind this podcast is to discuss all stages of the writing journey. Why? Because success doesn’t happen over night. And talking about the hardships, talking about how others struggle with writer’s block/burn out/loss of drive and thousands of other negative affects that comes from choosing to pursue this mentally/emotionally demanding passion is important. I fully believe that the less alone a writer feels, the less likely they are to give up.

The Pens and Prosecco Podcast is here to remind you that no journey is the same, but each journey is worth pursuing. I'm excited to connect with fellow writes, hear their stories and then share them with you.
