Welcome to another episode of the Record Report!

For this episode, we're heading back down south to listen to Atlanta rapper Trouble's debut studio album Edgewood.

Mostly produced by Georgia producer MikeWillMadeIt, the original 16-track EP uses a different aesthetic to help Trouble's story of theft, grit, and perseverance. Edgewood also featured a wide array of stars including Drake, TheWeeknd, and Boosie Badazz. It was the only album to make the Billboard 200 before he died in 2022.

In this episode, Ahmad and Vance talk about the album's complex production, Boosie's influence in the rap industry, and what could have been if Trouble had been able to live through his career.

We also talk about what we listen to, how great Cowboy Carter is, and Country Raps.

Welcome back to the Record Report!

In this episode, we'll be taking a trip back over the pond, and back in time to review Cymande's self-titled debut, Cymande.

Dropping only a year after Funkadelic's Maggot Brain and long before other projects influenced the sound of the 1970s, Cymande is a project that uses several influences across the globe to create one of the earliest forms of funk music. Their story is told mainly through separate interviews and the documentary Getting It Back: The Story of Cymande.

Like they always do, Ahmad and Vance choose their Top 3 tracks, talk about the international elements behind the complex production, and why Cymande's music is one that many music (and hip-hop) lovers should give a listen.

We also talk about 'Like That', Amapiano, and take a look through Wale's Billboard charts stats.

We're glad to see you again for episode 5 of the Record Report!

For this episode, we have Radio DJ and Skater SylvrDolla in the building to talk about Tyler, the Creator's 4th studio album, Flower Boy.

Releasing in the summer of 2017, the Grammy-nominated LP faced tough competition in the rap genre with projects like Jay Z's 4:44 and Kendrick Lamar's DAMN. However, with its list of stars to grace the album from Kalis Uchis to A$AP Rocky, Flower Boy made a statement that summer by debuting at #2 on the Billboard 200, and was met with critical acclaim.

As always, Ahmad, Vance, and SylvrDolla choose their Top 3 tracks, discuss behind-the-scenes notes from FLOWER BOY: a conversation, and find out how the project became a precursor to the Grammy-award winning follow-up Igor.

Welcome back to Season 4 of The Record Report!

Ford this episode, we're heading over the pond to review Little Simz's third album The Grey Area.

Dropping in 2019, The Grey Area was released to critical and commercial success, getting placed on television shows like Ballers, and even grabbing the spotlight on Apple Music in the late 2010s.

From self-love to losing a loved one, the project paints a picture of a world that struggles to balance between a modern utopia and dystopia through Simz's stories.

As always, Ahmad and Vance choose their top 3, debate if the album has grime influences, and talk about some of the stronger themes that the album had.

We also talk about Cleo Soul, Schoolboy Q's new album Blue Lips, and songs for Happy Days.

Welcome back to Season 4 (and 50th Episode) of the Record Report!

For this episode, we're heading south to North Carolina to review Little Brother's Sophmore album The Menstrual Show. At the time of this album's release, the group faced scrutiny for its polarizing concept, which references the offensive shows of the same name that were popular in the early 1900s.

Despite the controversy, the group managed to create arguably the best album in their catalog. Using a satirical television show to make fun of the state of mainstream hip hop at the time, while illustrating the true struggles of a rap artist.

Like they always do this time, Vance and Ahmad pick their Top 3 tracks, discuss The Menstrual Show's effects on Little Brother's commercial success, and how their music impacted Hip Hop's next generations to come.

We also mention what we've been listening to lately, Kanye West, and old commercial jingles.

    Walk Like A Warrior

Welcome back to the Record Report.

This week, we're taking a revolutionary stance with Dead Prez's second album RBG: Revolutionary But Gangsta.

Dropping in the Spring of 2004, RBG was a project that spotlighted the duo's versatility in sounds, yet consistency in message. With features from rap stars like Jay-Z and Krazy Bone, the album doesn't hesitate to take a conscious approach to rap music in the 2000s with more southern sounds.

In this episode, Vance and Ahmad choose their top 3 tracks, discuss Dead Prez's impact on the culture, and talk about the need for more diversity in hip-hop.

We also talk about the Grammys, what we've been listening to recently, and how good Krazy Bone is.
