Ever since the Exodus, God promised to send a prophet like Moses to lead his people. Throughout the history of Israel, people longed for this prophet to speak on behalf of God and represent the people. God sent his true prophet in his son Jesus Christ, and now we have but one task: To listen. Let us listen to what Jesus, our good and loving prophet, has to say to us and keep in step with his message through obedient faith!

Jesus is Prophet, Priest, and King, and he fulfills each role in multifaceted ways. Jesus is fearless in the face of opposition and faithful to his mission. He feels emotions deeply as he expresses love, care, and compassion to his children. And he is the final, true prophet who takes away the sin of the world. Let us trust the prophetic word of Jesus Christ!

Compromise is especially dangerous because it doesn’t require you to wholly reject Christ. Adding in a bit of the world here and there inoculates us to the true evil and peril in which we are participating. Let us instead look clearly upon the judgment we risk adding in false worship to our relationship with God. And above all, let us gaze ever more steadfastly upon our glorious savior who sustains us in the face of temptation!

If you are pained by the injustice that you see around you, you are not alone. The world is filled with the results of the fall both inside and outside the community of God’s people. When we reckon with this reality, it is appropriate to cry out to God. When we do, we can know with certainty that he is the God of justice, comfort, mercy, and power. Let us bring our appeals before our loving Father and trust in his sovereign plan!

What is the kingdom of God like? To what does Jesus compare it? It is like a mustard seed, expanding from small to large. It is like leaven, transforming all that is around it. And it is like a narrow door into which only those who humble themselves by faith and repentance can enter. Let us rejoice in the kingdom of God and strive to enter it by grace!

Is your heart more compelled by a breach of etiquette or by a person in need? Jesus calls us to move past our human traditions and critical spirits and instead seek to love those around us. Jesus redeems the people he chooses in the way he desires. He pours out his grace on the least of these, and he demonstrates his compassion and power in ways that don’t always make sense to us. Let us embrace his sovereign plan and pour out his love to a world in need!
