Lehigh Valley-based hip-hop group, The Xenomorph, join us for a Shards Session recorded in November 2019. The two members of the group are Bethlehem rapper NyteXing and Allentown artist and producer Johnny Five. And if all of those names didn’t clue you in, you can expect lots of references from comics, movies, cartoons, and gaming in their music, especially from NyteXing who says he’s a “gamer not a gangster.” It’s important that we mention that since we recorded this session, NyteXing changed the name he makes music under to GR3YS0N, so make sure you follow his new moniker.

For this session, the duo perform a song together and both members perform their own solo material. It’s three sessions in one on this edition of Tape Swap Radio!

On this show, we premiere the Shards Session from Philadelphia-based band Booze Radly, recorded in August 2019. The five members of Booze Radly, who are all originally from the Lehigh Valley, have just self-released their debut album Haunted Mind, an energetic mixture of raucous pop-punk and emo whose songwriting explores singer and guitarist Alex Manescu’s personal family struggles.

We also explore the DIY music scene of Scranton, Pennsylvania. Our guest is community organizer Jess Meoni, one of the founders of the Scranton DIY Punk Collective who hosts the annual Weird and Wired Punk Bazaar, a combination punk rock flea market and zinefest for the Scranton area. Jess also keeps herself busy by booking shows, organizing movie screenings, running a screen printing business with her friend, drumming in the (awesomely-named) Wife Swamp, and more. She put together a mixtape of Scranton bands to play and talked to us about the music scene that she calls home.

For this show, we unveil the Shards Session with L.A. FASTLIFE, a four-piece band out of Bethlehem, recorded in April 2019. The band has its roots in the punk rock of the 1970’s with band members undertaking cover sets from both Wire and the Stooges before setting out to play their own original songs. The band started with Don on vocals/guitar (Poor Diet, Daytime Cleaners), Ben on bass, and Lee on drums (Ugly Zoo, FAKE CULT). The last addition to the band was Becca on guitar (Small Mess, Ghost Lily) before the band made their live debut in 2017.
