    Stress, not Struggle

    Stress, not Struggle

It has been a wild ride through the first quarter of 2022. After making my 2022 New Years resolution, I decided to spend the first couple months focusing on myself and my goals. Self reflecting turned into a small revelation about my emotions regarding stress. During this episode, I redefine the meaning of stress, and where/why we experience struggle and burnout.

    Prejudice

    Prejudice

In this episode, guest speaker, Terry, and I reflect on different situations we've experienced relating to "Prejudice." We provide a modern outlook on the outdated discrimination that we have encountered, along with many other people. Through exploring different topics, including race, ethnicity, and religion, we discuss the physical and mental harm that occurs through the ongoing prejudices, even in a progressive society.

    Flying With A Felon

    Flying With A Felon

In the summer of 2020, I decided to take a trip to Michigan by myself, which was the first time I have ever flown alone on an airplane. During this flight I was seated next to a woman, named Nancy, who had shared with my how she was visiting her son for the first time in 7 years after being released from federal prison. Despite my initial confusion and caution, I engaged in a conversation with her, which ended up lasting the whole 4.5 hour flight. Throughout our talk, she shared her stories relating to her childhood, arrest, case trial, children, jail time, and the current situation she is experiencing after being released. Throughout our talk, we established a strong connection and discover a big coincidence between her and I, relating to a past event I participated in.

To be honest, this podcast is a mess, as it is hard for me to talk about the emotions I was experiencing on this flight, along with the current living situation Nancy is experiencing. Since this episode involves different topics including drugs, prison, and death, it is difficult to fully demonstrate how impactful this story has been for me. I did stutter quite a lot in the episode, which I decided to keep in this episode, because I truly am still speechlessness and emotional about Nancy's story.

I hope this episode is a good eye-opener to remind you how we are all connected, despite our different backgrounds, life stories, and situations. The world is a better place when we show empathy to people by listening, supporting, and understanding others, because you never know the newfound perspectives you will discover.

In part one, of the two part "Unfiltered" series, we address the stigma of mental health and the fine line between exaggerated mental health and symptoms compared to day-to-day life dealing with mental health issues and differences.

    Passionate Punishment

    Passionate Punishment

In this episode, I share a personal story about an experience and the psychology behind the way the situation was resolved. January 2021, I was pulled over for speeding while driving on the 101, trying to get home during the Covid-19 curfew. Knowing I was going to be in big trouble, I went to court, only to receive a strange, but restorative, punishment that involved a passion I have and use daily. Breaking down the key points in this unique story, I develop a psychological analysis of the power of the new term I developed called, Passionate Punishment.
