In today’s episode of Figuring Out, we have the co-founders of University Living, Saurabh Arora and Mayank Maheshwari, in conversation with Raj Shamani. University Living, a pioneering global student housing management platform, addresses the critical housing gap for 35 million students. They let students search, compare, and book from over 2 million beds in 515+ student-popular cities across the UK, Ireland, Australia, Europe, USA, and Canada, totaling over 65k properties on their website. Over the past 8 years, they have accommodated students for more than 15 million nights. The platform, interacting with over 8 million students of 120 nationalities to date, offers a diverse range of off-campus housing solutions including PBSAs, apartments, and homestays. In addition to accommodation, University Living provides end-to-end services such as health insurance, flight tickets, guarantor services, international money transfers, student bank accounts, visa services, room essentials, and airport pickup.
In this episode, we talked about common reasons students go abroad to study, the exposure people get when they study abroad, and the differences between Indian and foreign universities. We then discussed why many students prefer going to the US, whether careers really grow in the US, and the top universities there. We also talked about the scams that happen there and how students can protect themselves from those scams.
Towards the end, we discussed the costliest cities in the world, when to book accommodation while moving to study abroad, and the backstory of Canada's housing crisis. We covered the top 5 countries and the university and living expenses that a student has to bear. They also talked about free universities abroad and how University Living works and earns profits.
