Chai Time With Dr. Erum Ilyas: The Fabric of Dermatology

Chai Time With Dr. Erum Ilyas: The Fabric of Dermatology

Dermatologist by day, fashion CEO by night, drinking six cups of chai a day through it all- we bring you Dr. Erum Ilyas!

This week’s episode with Dr Ilyas we go deep into the “fabric of reality” of the field of Dermatology. From how the field’s bread and butter has changed over time, to topics as niche as the pros and cons of telemedicine within the field, we’re serious when we say we go through it all.

More than that though, Dr Ilyas recounts how she started her clothing line @ambernoonstyle , where she weaves together medical expertise with a passion for textiles to create stylish versatility while being sun aware. Putting together medicine and fashion makes for a whole mix and match of topics discussed in between like fashion sustainability, sun protective clothing, and patient education.

We can not thank Dr Ilyas enough for her time and we are genuinely excited to bring this episode to you all! Tune in this Friday morning to hear all about how the business aspect of clinical practice did (or didn’t) carry over to the infrastructure of a clothing line for Dr Ilyas!!

Chai Time with Dr. Arianna Gianakos: Trailblazer in Orthopedics- A Story of Allyship & Needle Arthroscopy

Chai Time with Dr. Arianna Gianakos: Trailblazer in Orthopedics- A Story of Allyship & Needle Arthroscopy

An injury ridden tenure as a student basketballer first forced Dr. Gianakos to find the bright side to a sticky situation. Since then, she hasn’t stopped turning negatives into positives. Whether it was serving as research chief at her residency program, co-founding SpeakUpOrtho, or helping shape In-Office Needle Arthroscopy early in its lifetime, Dr. Gianakos has found a way to enrich any space she’s a part of.

We’ve recently been interviewing more and more medical students in the middle of research years. In our opinion, this episode puts many of our prior episodes on research years into perspective. As someone who took her own research year in med school and now guides medical students in her capacity as a faculty member, Dr. Gianakos is in a great position to speak on making the most of research experiences. In our interview she details the simple, clear, and urgent steps one should take at the beginning and end of any research project.

Whether you’re wondering if you’re cut out for a field, you’ve recently been doubting yourself, or you want to learn how to turn around setbacks, this episode is for you. Dr Gianakos’ words are distinctly motivational and we’re so so thankful to her for spending her time with us. In doing so, she helped us record what may just be the extremely informative pick me up you need this weekend.

Chai Time With Dr. Ian Storch: There Is No Try

Chai Time With Dr. Ian Storch: There Is No Try

Featuring the D.O. Or Do Not Podcast’s very own Dr Ian Storch, we present this season’s fourth episode- “There is No Try” releasing this Friday morning! From a first gen college student studying English at Binghamton, to an ambassador of osteopathic medicine seeing a full schedule of patients at his gastroenterology practice while managing his podcast. The story of Dr Storch’s in between belongs in a book. The highlights of his early days include deciding to be a doctor after watching an EMT friend in action, basing his med school list off of a book he found on a shelf, and writing a poem as his personal statement, just to name a few. If that’s not a must listen story…. I don’t know what isWe were really just trying to match the name of this episode to Dr Storch’s podcast title. Ironically though, “There is No Try” fits the theme of the anecdotal lessons Dr Storch shares with us. Going far beyond board scores and research, he shares with us behind the scenes details and tribulations of his journey from residency to his gastroenterology fellowship. Tune in this Friday morning to hear Dr Storch highlight some of the less talked about challenges of completing one’s medical training.
