41: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) weight loss and optimizing fertility with Sandro Graca Conscious Fertility

    • Alternative Health

In this episode, Dr. Lorne Brown welcomes Sandro Graca, a lecturer and researcher in reproductive health. They discuss polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), which is a common condition affecting women's reproductive health. Sandro explains that PCOS is a metabolic disorder, which can cause long or absent menstrual cycles and the presence of multifollicular or cysts in one or multiple ovaries. It is characterized by hyperandrogenism or excess androgens in the body.

One of the main misconceptions about PCOS is the presence of cysts on the ovaries. Sandro clarifies that although cysts can be present, the diagnosis of PCOS is made based on other criteria such as hormonal imbalance and clinical symptoms. The diagnosis of PCOS usually requires a physical exam and blood tests that can help provide a better understanding of the condition.

The conversation also touches on the emotional and psychological aspects of PCOS. Treatment for this disease usually involves lifestyle changes such as exercise, diet, and stress management. Medications, supplements and acupuncture are sometimes used to manage symptoms and reduce the risk of developing other health conditions. Sandro emphasizes that there is no one-size-fits-all treatment for PCOS, and it is essential to work with a healthcare provider who can customize a treatment plan based on individual needs.

This episode provides a comprehensive overview of PCOS, including its causes, symptoms, and treatment options. Dr. Brown and Sandro Graca offer valuable insights into this common condition, which affects millions of women worldwide. Their conversation is informative and accessible, making it a valuable resource for anyone seeking to learn more about PCOS.
