Affect Autism was created to help parents and practitioners apply the Developmental, Individual differences, Relationship-based (DIR) model to respectfully promote relating, communicating, and thinking in autistic children in order to invite out their highest potential. Research in neuroscience has supported a developmental approach over traditional behavioural approaches like Applied Behaviour Analysis. Affect Autism is more cost effective because it works with parents who apply the strategies that Floortime offers, promoting playful interactions over behaviour management techniques. DIR/Floortime respects where the child is developmentally, their individual sensory processing profiles, and uses the relationship to build trust and playfully challenge the child to relate, communicate and think, in order to invite them into a shared world where they can reach the potential they wish to realize.

Great podcast!

As an SLP in Canada, I love listening to the blend of knowledge from developmental professionals and parents of children! Are you able to put the show notes from the website onto the podcast app? It’s hard to know what a podcast episode is about just by the title!
