    Arsecast Extra Episode 492 - 02.10.2022

In this episode we talk about a very enjoyable a 3-1 North London derby win, and three points which keep us top of the Premier League. We chat about the respective approaches of both teams, Thomas Partey's superb strike undoing Sp*rs' relentlessly negative approach, the penalty and a bit of a wobble, before a superb second half and goals from Gabriel Jesus and Granit Xhaka sealing the win. We discuss the red card, whether we're getting enough credit for the win, before answering listener questions about Harry Kane's fouling, Ben White's form, central defensive options, Arsenal as potential title contenders, and lots more.

    Episode 697 - Expected Goals

    Episode 697 - Expected Goals

In this episode I chat to Rory Smith about his new book 'Expected Goals', which traces the growth of data in football and how it has influenced the game as we know it today. We talk about surprising early adopters, how players were able to skew early iterations of data, the way the use of stats is often at odds with the chaos of the game, poor communication, how things may develop in the future, and lots more – including how StatDNA put Arsenal ahead of the curve back in the day, but never really provided the kind of competitive advantage it might have.
The book is fascinating for stats advocates, and stats skeptics alike – and you can order it now from your local independent bookstore.

    Arsecast Extra Episode 491 - 26.09.1971

    Arsecast Extra Episode 491 - 26.09.1971

In this Interlull episode, we chat about the record breaking day for Arsenal Women as they beat Sp*rs 4-0, injury concerns over some of our players as we head into October, not least Thomas Partey who withdrew from the Ghana squad with a knee injury. We discuss his ongoing issues, and how Arsenal need to give it very careful consideration, as well as Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu. Then we answer listener questions about that October schedule, Raul Sanllehi's interview with The Athletic, debut goalscorers, and lots more – including some very suspect FIFA 23 graphics as we rate the entire squad based on a video.
Here's the Tweet with the question: https://twitter.com/riyanvatcha/status/1574410628605018114
Here is the YouTube video with all the squad faces! While this is allegedly Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal Women Arsecast Episode 51: September mailbag

Arsenal Women Arsecast Episode 51: September mailbag

On this month’s mailbag edition, Tim is joined by Art de Roche from the Athletic to look at Arsenal’s opening two games and look ahead to Saturday’s North London derby. Art and Tim take listener questions on the midfield structure for opponents who press hard, why WSL games are proving to be poor preparation for UWCL games, whether it is already time to expand the UWCL format and whether the WSL could be more creative in encouraging more shocks and more competitive games. Tim and Art also address the subject of squad rotation and why Spurs might be better preparation for Ajax than Brighton were. There is also a discussion about the competition between Laura Wienroither and Noelle Maritz at right-back.
