I had a bad time

UPDATE: All of the below still applies, but now after 66 episodes one of the hosts can’t even figure out how to speak audibly into a microphone. I’m still listening but It’s not getting better!

Almost 20 episodes deep, and I have to admit to being disappointed with this podcast. I am about as invested in this band as David is, but a lot of the criticisms he and Tim have with some of these songs just don’t resonate with me. Predictably (considering one of them has never bother listened to half their discography), they almost unanimously write off everything post-‘Crimson’ as being “lazy,” and simultaneously criticizing the band for never trying anything different while also lambasting them whenever they do on those latter records. But I guess if your criticism is going to be just as lazy that’s where you end up.

Great podcast

At first I thought it may be a stretch to have single episodes dedicated to a single song but David and Tim get a surprising amount of depth in their discussion. They have great chemistry and cover all aspects of the song, including context, lyrics and composition. They always have an interesting take on the songs. Highly recommended, not just for alkaline trio fans but anyone with a passing interest in punk music or music in general!
