Spring Cleaning: Are Your Thoughts Hijacking You?

Spring Cleaning: Are Your Thoughts Hijacking You?

Today I'm giving you caution. I'm cautioning you to pay attention to your thought patterns. That's the advice from one of my favorite life coaches, Dr. Richard Carlson. His “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff” books have been my go-to life guides for decades.

In this episode, I want to share why I'm so passionate about speaking to groups on mindset and happiness and why every single talk I give starts with self-talk awareness and resilience.

❤️  In this week’s dare, you are going to become aware of your thoughts and self-talk using my TALK technique. Here's how it works:

    T. Take Notice: Pay attention to what you're thinking and how you feel throughout the day. Acknowledge your emotions and thoughts.

    A. Acknowledge: Name the emotion you're feeling and notice how it feels in your body. When you do this, it creates distance between you, your thought, and your emotion.

    L. Learn from It: Get curious about the thoughts you had and why you're feeling the way you're feeling. Ask yourself why you're feeling this way and what might have triggered it.

    K. Kick it Out: Challenge the negative thought or replace it with something more positive. When you practice noticing, acknowledging, learning, and reframing, you build up self-talk resilience.

Navigating Menopause with The Menopause Midwife

Navigating Menopause with The Menopause Midwife

Today we’re talking about the Big M - Menopause! This life phase leaves women frustrated, stressed, and even angry. Hot flashes, interruptive sleep, weight gain - oh my! If you're nodding along, feeling exasperated by the changes happening in your body, trust me, you're not alone. Like many others, you may find yourself caught up in the whirlwind of emotions, wondering, "Why is this happening to me?"

But what if there's another way to look at it? What if, instead of seeing menopause as something that's happening to us, we consider the idea that it could be happening for us? I know, it might sound radical, even infuriating at first. But bear with me because, let's face it, menopause is no laughing matter. And if there's a chance that shifting our perspective could alleviate some of the stress and anger we feel, wouldn't it be worth exploring?

To guide us through this mindset shift, we have a special guest today, Dr. Cari Schaefer, also known as The Menopause Midwife. With her background in traditional Chinese medicine, herbalism, and a passion for empowering women, Dr. Schaefer is here to offer insights, wisdom, and practical strategies to help us embrace menopause as a transformative journey rather than a dreaded ordeal.

Let’s explore Dr. Schaefer's holistic approach to menopause and uncover the tools we need to reclaim our vitality and balance in this new chapter of life. It's time to shift the narrative and embrace menopause as an opportunity for renewal and empowerment.

❤️ Your DARE for this week  is to begin reducing your stress by employing these three methods:
    1.  Start by meal planning and dividing your daily calories into three nutritious, well-balanced meals.
    2. Adopt a morning practice to calm your system and prepare for the day ahead.
    3. Consider adjusting your sleep habits and environment to promote restful sleep before bedtime.

To Dare Or Not To Dare, What's The Greater Risk?

Are you questioning your identity? Perhaps you've devoted years only to motherhood or a specific career, leaving little space for exploration beyond those boundaries. If this resonates with you, know that you're not alone.

Today, I'm excited to introduce someone who can navigate us through the journey of self-discovery and empowerment! Meet Lu Ann Cahn, a woman of resilience, bravery, and adventure. Lu Ann's transformation began with a simple yet profound choice: to start on a year of new experiences.

As the author of the inspiring memoir "I Dare Me”, Lu Ann shares how she broke free from the routine and embraced the uncharted.

What distinguishes Lu Ann is her determination to challenge herself while juggling the responsibilities of a full-time career and family. She initiated this bold expedition, proving that it's never too late to redefine oneself and chase passions beyond societal norms.

With a remarkable eight Emmy awards to her credit as a respected journalist with NBC 10 news in Philadelphia, Lu Ann Cahn brings a treasury of experience and insight to our conversation today.

I'm Not Smart: Transforming Self-Talk for Empowerment

I'm Not Smart: Transforming Self-Talk for Empowerment

    “I’m not smart”.

This is a belief that’s been running on constant replay in my mind for decades, and when you give credence to the voices in your head, you often find evidence to support them.

Today, I'm talking about a topic that's close to my heart and vital for our well-being: self-talk.

In this episode, I open up about a deeply-held belief that has been a significant part of my life, one that most of my family and friends would be surprised to learn about.

“I’m not smart” held me back from participating in class discussions, attending college classes, and speaking up at board meetings. It made me doubt whether my accomplishments were mine or just dumb luck (pardon the pun).

Then Coach Jenn Lee entered my life, and in just a 90-minute coaching session, I began to shed the “I’m not smart” narrative and started to embrace my brilliance.

I hope that by sharing this story, you’ll realize that your thoughts and beliefs may not necessarily reflect reality. Instead of unquestioningly accepting them, you can interrogate them, challenge them, and ultimately banish them for good.

    ❤️ This week’s DARE is a self-talk challenge. Here's your challenge:

    1. Pay Attention: Journal your thoughts for a week. Write down those negative narratives.

    2. Create Your "I Am" List: Identify 7-10 words that reflect your strengths and values. Then, recite them aloud twice daily for 21 days.

    3. Seek External Validation: Ask three people for three words describing you. Add their words to your list, highlighting the new additions.
