#98: Everybody's a Critic (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 98th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.

In this episode, we discuss critique, and specifically dissect two negative reviews of our book—one of which, in an establishment outfit, is not really a review; the other of which, posted on amazon, is actually careful and cogent. We discuss the difference being uninformed (or scientifically illiterate), and being unwilling to be informed (scientifically resistant).  Our book is an invitation to think deeply about what we are, and how to live better lives at both the individual and societal level. We discuss new research out of New Mexico that finds evidence for people there 23,000 years ago. We discuss how history is taught, and what our actual human past has to say about different types of frontiers, including geographic, as those earliest Americans found. We discuss Roger Scruton’s essay Dying in Time. And yes, we do mention that we made the New York Times best seller list.

#89: Transcendental Medication (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 89th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.

In this episode, we begin by discussing a recent episode of the Making Sense podcast, in which Sam Harris and guest Eric Topol strawman both our position, and that of many people who are trying to engage honestly and carefully with scientific evidence. We discuss the evidence that having had Covid confers immunity against SARS-CoV2; the concerns of some doctors about granting EUAs for the covid vaccines to be used in children; and the selective pressure on pathogens that imperfect vaccination creates. We then discuss sleep: beginning with an excerpt from chapter 6 of A Hunter-Gatherer’s Guide to the 21st Century—Sleep—we discuss dreams and hallucinations, the use of entheogens across human cultures, and the role of different qualities and intensities of light in modulating melatonin, mood, and alertness at various times of day. Finally, we speak to whether the phase of the moon affects our sleep, and conclude by noting that right now, the moon is full.

Amazing intellectual discussion. On subjects that we should all be concerned about. Keep up the good work. Enjoyed the easy flow of conversation from extremely knowledgeable folks

Bret is a coward

I fully supported and enjoyed Bret’s initial work after his run-in with the lefty insanity at Evergreen college. But now he is completely uninterested in serious intellectual discourse. It’s fine he’s now into conspiracies; it’s not fine he’s curated an anti-intellectual echo chamber. If Bret actually cared about truth he’d have on opposing viewpoints to have serious debates and give his listeners an honest portrayal of the landscape. Instead, he preaches to the converted, his listener base, and blatantly rejects the foundational Western conceit of the Principle of Charity. It’s at best severely dishonest, but more accurately its negligent given it leads to further social destabilization. Please stop being a coward, Bret!

A Rare Gem

If only our leaders and 90% of society had the intelligence and deep integrity of this podcast, we’d literally be in another world. A fair and just world. Where has discernment gone, where have moral and ethics escaped us? Thank God this Podcast reminds us that it is still possible! Thank you for your immense clarity and humanity in a world gone mad.
