    The Pain Catastrophizing Scale

    The Pain Catastrophizing Scale

We all know that pain is real, even pain that can't be narrowed down to a specific cause. But that begs the question---do your thoughts and feelings about pain actually make your pain worse?
In this episode, I'm going to share a useful tool that explores these thoughts, the Pain Catastrophizing Scale. It's a tool designed to measure your tendency to catastrophize pain. By separating the elements of how catastrophizing tends to manifest (rumination, magnification, and helplessness) it can help health care professionals guide treatment strategies and track progress, and can even increase your awareness of your own thoughts around pain to get it under control.

    Catastrophizing

    Catastrophizing

Life has a funny way of pulling us into a spiral of negative thinking sometimes. We start with a small concern, and before we know it, we're deep in a cycle of catastrophic thoughts. Our brain has a negativity bias, but luckily we can train it to see the positives too.
On this episode of Building Resilience, I delve into the concept of catastrophizing---a common cognitive distortion that traps us in a loop of negative thinking. We'll explore what catastrophizing is, why our minds tend to fall into this pattern, and the impact it can have on our mental and physical health. From understanding the underlying causes to practical strategies for breaking free from these thought traps, this episode is packed with insights to help you cultivate a more resilient mindset.

Reframe and Reclaim Rejection with special guest Lianne Kim

Reframe and Reclaim Rejection with special guest Lianne Kim

Life has a way of pushing us to our limits, often showing us how resilient we truly are. It's not just about bouncing back; it's about growing and embracing life's experiences.
On this episode of Building Resilience, I’m joined by my coach and mentor, Lianne Kim. Lianne is a business coach, founder of Mamas & Co., and host of the popular podcast, The Business of Thinking Big. Today, we dive deep into the topic of rejection, exploring its impact on our lives and how we can reframe and reclaim our power from it. Lianne shares her personal journey, from her early struggles in sales to becoming a successful coach for entrepreneur moms. We discuss practical strategies to handle rejection and use it as a tool for growth and resilience.
Rejection is a part of life, and understanding its role can transform our approach to challenges. As Lianne beautifully puts it, “If we’re not getting rejected, we’re not growing.”

    Get Over It

    Get Over It

Have you ever been told to "just get over it"? This simple statement can feel really dismissive and invalidating---because it is. The truth is, resilience isn't just about bouncing back; it's also about moving forward.
On this episode of Building Resilience, we dive deep into the concept of ruptures and repairs in relationships. Whether it's a personal disagreement, professional misunderstanding, or a deep emotional wound, understanding the dynamic of rupture and repair can transform how we heal and grow from these experiences. We explore how ignoring the need for genuine repair can leave us stuck, and why simply being told to get over it doesn't help.
