Coping Skills for Kids Struggling with Anxiety and Low Self-Esteem Parenting Our Future

You may be the smartest person in your circle but if you are emotionally unstable, it doesn’t matter. As parents, we often focus on academics and how well our kids are doing in school, but we need to also focus on our kids’ emotional intelligence. 
My guest, Author and Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Lisa Schab, talks about why and how teaching your kids emotional intelligence is SO IMPORTANT but it’s something we can’t do unless we are nurturing our own emotional health. We are seeing so much anxiety in our kids.  In fact, the suicide rate is higher today than it’s been in 20 years.  Our kids are struggling with anxiety and self-esteem because they have more pressures to succeed, we live in a scarier society in a world that seems more unstable and the pressures on our kids to succeed is more than ever.  Add to that, their access to social media where they are comparing themselves to others and can be bullied on multiple platforms around the clock.

About Lisa Schab
Lisa received a Bachelor of Science degree in interpersonal communications from Northwestern University and a master’s degree in clinical social work with honors from Loyola University of Chicago.  She has 30 years of experience as a practicing psychotherapist and 40 years of experience as a freelance writer. Lisa has authored 18 self-help books for children, teens, and adults, including the international best-sellers, The Anxiety Workbook for Teens and The Self-Esteem Workbook for Teens. 
She has been interviewed as an expert for articles appearing in The New York Times, Scholastic Choices Magazine, Teen Vogue, Psych Central, Today’s Parent, Parent Circle, and The Mother Company, among others.  She has also written professional training courses available for continuing education credit through Professional Development Resources (www.pdresources.com,) and has authored regular columns on Tweens & Teens for Chicago Parent Magazine and Healthy Families for Sun Newspapers.
Earlier in her career she spent six years as an early childhood teacher and one year as a school social worker.  Lisa is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW.)
