European political parties to better represent Europe's citizens Maros Sefcovic

In September 2012, the Commission put forward proposals that would for the first time give EU-wide legal status to European political parties and their respective foundations. This week saw the first formal trialogue between the Commission, which I had the pleasure to represent, the European Parliament and the Council, represented by the Irish Presidency. The aim of the proposals is to help create truly transnational European political parties and foundations and generate Europe-wide public debates ahead of next year's European Parliament elections.
