IN THE FLESH Exhibition with artist Bethan Radcliffe

A walk around IN THE FLESH Exhibition with exhibiting artist Bethan Radcliffe.

IN THE FLESH is an exhibition that celebrates everything positive about viewing art in real life, about experiencing it in the flesh. Each artist has been selected for the original and exciting ways they  work   with texture, pattern, boldness, strong lines, colour, edges and expression. The exhibition features new work by Lewis Deeney, Bethan Radcliffe, Katheryne Morrison, David P Scott and Nicola Wiltshire (also the curator). This show comes soon after the end of lockdown in   Scotland, UK. To  maximise the physical experience, particular attention has been paid to  the way the viewer moves through the space and how each artist's unique  style relates to another's. Small touches have also been included to  arouse the senses, such as music and essential oils.

View the exhibition online until 26th June 2021 at www.inthefleshexhibition.bigcartel.com.

BETHAN RADCLIFFE is a Fife-based artist who graduated in 2018 with a BA in Fine Art (Duncan Of Jordanstone College Of Art And Design). “Working symbiotically with drawing and sculpture, my work stems from exploration into the formation of space. Creating playful encounters between audience and object, I want to challenge our perception of industrial materials and the discarded objects from which the artworks are derived. Combining fluid and immovable states creates a tension and energy within my works, firmly rooted in their materiality and the space they occupy. Most recently, my work has concerned itself with our relationship with things, investigating what happens when recognisable and familiar objects change location and are replaced by interpretations of their key qualities. These sculptural objects are a humorous exploration of our expectations of usefulness. Formal abstraction is used not as an end point, but to suggest origins, processes, and the act of making as a continuum.” - Bethan

LEWIS DEENEY is a Scottish artist using laser cutter technology to cut digital compositions out of his physical paintings. Combining expressive abstract painting with interlocking geometric  forms, Lewis Deeney’s work is a fusion of polarities and an interplay of the physical and digital. His 'digital hieroglyphs' raise a narrative about our  current relationship with technology and question our collective  ontology as we now coexist in both the physical and digital. The work is a combination of  the real and the virtual, humanity and technology.

Graduating in 2020 with a first in Contemporary Art Practice from  Duncan Of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, Deeney was awarded  both the James Guthrie Orchar Memorial award and the Farquhar Reid Trust  Prize during his ‘virtual’ degree show. He was one of eight artists  selected for the Freeland’s painting prize and was exhibited at the  Freeland’s Gallery, London. He is currently undertaking an MFA Art &  Humanities at DJCAD after being granted the William S Phillips award to  fund his studies. Deeney is represented by King House Art Gallery and  New Blood Art.
