    The Price of Time

    The Price of Time

Tick, tock, tick ... doot doot doo-doo ... time keeps on ticking ticking ticking ... into the future! And, luckily, in the future, nobody has to read any slightly-above-average Crichton-grade semi-thrillers with one science idea and zero character or plot ideas along the lines of Tim Tigner's The Price of Time.

Rock and roll, hair dye, motorcycle rides, dads, moms, tarot, magic, magik, and ... typos, cliches, and what may well be literature's first-ever love octagon.

    Zardoz

    Zardoz

A more elegant fiction from a more civilized age is John Boorman and Bill Stair's novelization of John Boorman's film script (for) Zardoz. It's a truly crazypants vision of a post-apocalyptic (and mostly pantsless) future, crafted by a couple men so laser-focused on breasts that you could well call them set adrift on mammary bliss.

They read the books so you don't have to

I'm always impressed with these folks' content and dedication. They will read bad books (which run the gamut from "rock star biography" to "recent bestseller" to "schlock horror" to "cozy mystery with no mystery," and so forth) and then discuss/mock them. Their criticisms are harsh but fair, and they don't pull punches. They also have segments (who doesn't have segments?), but they're introduced with original songs, and high-quality productions at that. This is a fun, slick podcast, which is also the bookclub you subscribe to when you don't want to read the book.

Lots of fun and informative to boot

I just started listening a few months ago, downloading episodes here and there. If you're unsure of where to start, look for anything with Centa or Mara Wilson as guest host, then dive into any of the usual J and Chris ones.
