Canadian Embassy feedback for ep 22

Hi Shag, just wanted to say I really enjoy your podcast covering this era of the Justice League. My personal history with this book had started late in the pre-crisis JLA book. I had subscribed to some of DC’s mailing service at the time, and one of the books were cancelled so I had selected JLA to fill out the remainder number of books left in that subscription that year. So I saw end of the Detroit era League at the time. Shortly after that I discovered direct market comic shops, particularly Golden Age Collectibles in Vancouver, and then Tasmanian Comics in Burnaby.

It was here that my eyes and my poor wallet was truly opened to comic book collecting. I latched onto DC early on, probably due to the character recognition from my exposure to the Super Friends cartoon back in the day.

When Crisis On Infinite Earths launched, I was astounded by the event and story. And it goes to follow that with the relaunch of the new DCU, I was all in. Including the Justice League books!

The house ads were my avenue to explore more mature themed books, particularly the miniseries. To some degree I wanted to have proof that the books I bought weren’t just kids stuff. There should be a podcast for that kind of stuff, Jay Jones had prodded me to do one, I keep thinking about doing it. I wonder if there’s any audience interest in that?

I do remember picking up Sandman #1, but I think it was a bit “out there” for me, plus in the New Format pricing as a regular title, I decided against picking up the title. I did end up regretting that decision, but I’ve since picked up the Absolute Editions.

I have to confess, in recent month’s I’ve put off listening to all podcasts, but only just recently have been catching up. I regret hearing the Monitor Duty segment will be dropped. I always appreciated it as it gives me context and reminds me of those books. At times, I can even remember buying some of those books. I can’t say I have a great memory, but often when I look at a book from the past, I can remember moments in the store when I bought it. Perhaps this segment can continue to live in the podcast notes and links. It’s a great resource for those of us who bought the books new in the day.

Anyways, I look forward to future episodes, I very much appreciate the analysis and recaps from you and your guests, as it’s a great way to re-discover this title!

boldrobin ,

Great show about a much-loved version of the Justice League.

Greetings from the Toronto JLI Consulate. Canada has contributed many great members to the Justice League -- Green Arrow, Superman (multiple versions), Supergirl, The Flash and Firestorm. So it's gratifying to have a show pay tribute to these great Canadian heroes. What do you mean "Not Canadian"? They are filmed in Vancouver. Oh, what do you mean filming locations don't count? Well, it's still a wonderful show paying tribute to that great Canadian superhero Booster Gold. What? New 52 continuity doesn't count either? Sigh. Okay -- it's still a delightful and fun podcast that covers "international" (ie: mostly American) heroes. If you fondly remember the 1980s and 1990s comics, or just want to discover a take on the world's greatest heroes that is a bit different, this is the podcast for you. Return with Shagg and his co-hosts to a time when comics were fun and when the personalities were more important than the powers.

Bwah-HaHas from the Canadian Embassy!

The JLI is my favorite JL team but now I can't make a podcast about them because of Shagg. Nonetheless my would be podcast 'Tales from the Embassy' wouldn't have ever been half as great as this show so I'll leave that to the professional and get on with my regularly scheduled Marvel podcast. This show has quickly jumped to the top of my must listen list and deservingly so. This show never gets old in part thanks to the ever rotating Co-hosts and in part thanks to the fact that this poor man has decided to spend all of his free time talking about comics and as such has become a master of talk-show entertainment. Keep up the good work, Bob... Jack? Todd? I figure if I keep guessing eventually I'll get your name... Joe? Steven? Stephen? Sta-fhone? Okay. I'll leave you alone... George?
