Tom Davis. You’re truly a gift to all dogs and their owners
Long winded review and a question at the end;) I’ve been watching your videos and listening to your podcast for years. This review is long overdue :) It’s honestly something very special to watch someone practice their craft and follow their passion. You’re a master communicator with canines and humans and the way you bridge the gap between them is unmatched. You have this undeniable (& inherent) talent and skill to handle dogs and to teach humans. Such a wonderful combination of confidence, humility, charisma, empathy and emotional intelligence 👏You had helped with my dobermans leash reactivity and helped me better understand canine behaviour overall. I’ve found a love and personal interest in dog training because of you. I hadn’t heard of balances dog training until you and it makes complete sense - a system of rewards and consequence. Leadership, structure, accountability and fairness. We now have a Great Dane poodle mix and I’m using your Kickstarter Course to start our boy off right. I love the Burleigh videos. So helpful. THANK You. For all that you do <3 you’re making a difference in this world …I think a TedTalk could be in your future!
QUESTION: I’m currently working on loose leash walking with our 4.5 month old puppy (Dane/Poodle) My initial plan was to have two separate commands for loose leash walking ( on left side can be ahead of me but not pulling )and then a heel ( at my left side loose leash not ahead of me) My Question- How do I clearly differentiate to the puppy the difference between heel and a loose leash walk? Is this reasonable or logical to do? Or should it be more binary either you’re in a heel or on a “break” command What are your thoughts? Also. Slip lead, prong and corrections - do you still correct a puppy at this age with gentle leash pops? What age can we use prong ? We have 2.25mm Hermsprenger from when our Dobie was around.
Down to earth training advice!
Hi Tom, No questions -just a review! I am getting my first puppy in March. I have spent the last year educating myself on everything related to training I can find. I started down the road of the “positive only” approach and I felt so overwhelmed and disillusioned by the unrealistic advice. Thankfully, I discovered your content advice a few months ago! It is so refreshing and realistic to hear and see your approach. I have the kickstarter course and I now feel that I have the necessary first steps to practice to ensure my puppy will be held accountable and to develop the relationship that I want with a dog. Without even having a dog yet my confidence has grown so much since finding your content!!The timing is perfect for me, as I understand you will be getting a puppy soon too! Can’t wait for more content! Thank you for passing on your knowledge and skills.
Life changing!
My husky/kelpie mix has been dog reactive since being attacked 4 years ago. I tried positive only training for years with barely any improvement. When I came across Tom’s YouTube channel I felt like I finally found someone who was saying what I needed to hear.
Now, after 3 months of consistently working on our relationship, setting clear boundaries, and using a Dogtra e-collar and Herm Sprenger prong, I can confidently say that my dog has never been happier or more fulfilled than he is now.
Balanced training gave my dog the quality of life that “force free” never could. Shout out to Tom and Robert Cabral for saving so many reactive dogs lives!
