This is a podcast where two sisters, and sometimes a guest, rewatch movies they saw when they were kids and review them. With humour, sarcasm, and random tidbits of info, this is a great listen for anyone born in the 80s, anyone who loves movies, and anyone else whose family speaks complete sections of dialogue as part of their daily conversations.

133.5 Triviasode: Would Everybody Just Calm Down For The Love of God And All That is Holy?

It’s game time everybody! Wahoo! And that means Lisa and Pauline are in the best mood possible. This week Pauline has picked the movie and Lisa is trying to figure out which one. To make it an even greater challenge, the trivia for this film is rather thin. Practically non-existent. Can Lisa guess it anyway? Tune in and find out!

    133: There’s a Double Meaning in That

At long last, Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” is being discussed. We know you were all waiting desperately to find out how this film held up. Weren’t you? Starring Kenneth Branagh, Emma Thompson, Michael Keaton, Denzel Washington, and Keanu Reeves, this 90’s interpretation is remembered remarkably fondly by little Lisa and Pauline. Especially given they had no idea what it was about. Is it worth rewatch? Let’s find out!

132: Well What if There is No Tomorrow? There Wasn't One Today!

Groundhog Day. The 1994 comedy-fantasy with Bill Murray and Andy McDowell. Arguably one of the (still) most quoted movies in the Brunnen household - right up there with My Cousin Vinny and A League of Their Own. This film, NOT appropriate for kids, was on all. The. Time. One of IMDb's top 250 movies of all time. But does it hold up?? Listen to our latest episode to find out what we think!

131.5 Triviasode: What if There is No Tomorrow? There Wasn’t One Today!

It’s Triviasode time again! Yay! And this time Pauline has picked the perfect February film. A comedy classic that was watched by all the Brunnens on repeat and quoted incessantly. Will Lisa guess it before the episode’s end? Of course! Will there be banter and tangents before then? Absolutely! So, what are you waiting for? Hit play and enjoy!

131: That Was The Sound of a Tool Chest, Falling Down The Stairs

Who’s in the mood for a Christmas movie? Anyone? Excellent because this week the sisters are talking about the sequel to one of the biggest Christmas blockbusters ever - Home Alone 2: Lost in New York! Is it worthy of its predecessor? Is it as hilarious as Pauline and Lisa remember from childhood? Well…best to tune in and find out.

A total joy

It’s as if Julia Child and Nora Ephron made a podcast. Lisa (Julia) and Pauline (Nora) have strong opinions, great chemistry (they’re sisters who clearly love each other so, duh) and they’re really funny. Lisa always has a laugh in her voice and Julia’s lovely flutey tones and Pauline has Nora’s wry and dry delivery, and is more deadpan. I couldn’t be more proud of these two great Canadians! Highly HIGHLY recommend.

Sassy smart sisters get “reel” with movie reviews

Two sisters take us back to their favourite films from childhood in a time machine wrapped in a cozy blanket of nostalgia. The movie trivia episode, a prelude to the review episode, is clever and precise. Trivia does take a back seat to the sisters comedic banter and friendly competition. So funny!!
The movie breakdown episodes that follows the “triviasodes” seems a casual chat but there is a formula these movies need to live up to - such as the modern Bechdel test. (Look it up!) Sadly many fail. It’s during these episodes the sisters giggle and reminisce as they reconcile their childhood perceptions to how they view the movie now. The sweetness of their relationship is clear as younger sister Pauline often quips to her older sister’s deeper understanding of adult situations saying, “I didn’t clock that! I used to think it was the year difference between us but I don’t think that explains it - I think you must have just been smarter!!!” Older sister Lisa politely laughs while bolstering Pauline’s confidence.
The sisters relationship is the brilliance of this podcast. Lisa Marie is whip smart remembering every detail of the movie. (We are talking movie score detail!!) The trivia and movie detail can be a bit beyond the listeners reach. It doesn’t matter though because the two quickly provide context as they go back and forth in their own reaction to the detailed little nugget each sister brings to stump or impress the other! Pauline’s comedic timing is spot on with laugh out loud observations in every episode.
The movie plays second fiddle to the warmth these sisters share and it obvious that their love of movies is a distant second to how much they love each other.❤️♥️❤️
