Season Two: Heroes of the Early Years. Out now—new episodes released weekly. This season tells the stories of individuals who shaped the earliest response to AIDS in New York and San Francisco. Years before ACT UP burst onto the scene, these people did everything they could to get the gay community, the medical establishment, and the public to care about AIDS.

Episode One: Dr. Joseph Sonnabend
On July 3, 1981, the New York Times publishes an article titled "Rare Cancer Seen in 41 Homosexuals." This article is the first mention of AIDS in a mainstream media outlet and marks a turning point in queer history. But, the article could have been published much earlier.
This is the story of Dr. Joseph Sonnabend, a physician in New York's West Village, and his early push to get the medical establishment to act quickly on a new illness that was impacting gay men.

Such an amazing story. Loved it. Want more.
Unusual and beautiful
This podcast has the feel of a labour of love really well done. The production is polished, but the content feels (and, I think, is) very personal to the storyteller. It is like someone made a podcast about that person who you met once but continued to think about years or decades later. Dane includes just the right amount of context to make the story live. Loved the descriptions of Montreal (where I live).
Great storytelling
I can’t remember how I found the podcast but I am so happy I did. Zane does a wonderful job of weaving together letters, interviews, personal history and radio-drama. History is fleshed out through this exploration of Daryl’s life. The pacing and production is excellent. It’s hard to believe that such a small group created this very polished work. Very impressive.
