What do Vincent Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, and I have in common? We're all self taught artists. I stumbled around in the dark as I started my artistic journey... I didn't know what paints to buy, how to varnish my work, or the differences between painting mediums. The mission of the Self Taught Artist podcast is to help artists (and aspiring artists) learn and fully discover the joy of making art. We will cover everything from the basics of painting, to how to sell your work, and beyond.

    82. Dreaming Big: the Power of Imperfect Action

In this episode, we check in on your 2024 art priorities and talk about the game-changing idea of taking imperfect action. I share how diving in before having it all figured out has shaped my artist journey. We break down the myth of feeling ready, emphasizing that confidence comes from doing, not waiting. I highlight the importance of action over perfection, using relatable examples for artists. The key takeaway: don't wait for confidence, take action before you feel ready, and watch your creative journey unfold.

My first review ever….bc you’re amazing

I actually had to research how to give a review on apple podcast because I needed to tell you how much I love your podcast. I’m a self taught artist as well and know what it’s like to trial and error 10000 times before getting something right. Your generosity of your knowledge from all your hard work, trial and error is so appreciated. I really enjoyed the therapeutic aspects of your show (loving your own artwork, not being scared, Artist block ) as well as the super practical tips relating to shipping and packaging. Keep up the amazing content, and hopefully we can chat one day :) Tanya Zbili Toronto Canada

The Why

Why is this such a great podcast and why should you listen to it? If you’re like me, a Self Taught Artist, you have not had years of feedback and support from art teachers. There’s been nobody telling you you’re amazing and where you can tweak and grow. And there’s nobody that’s been teaching you the basics, especially in a summarized form. Yet for some reason, there is a voice in your head, telling you to do this, and enjoying your heart as you create. This podcast has made me believe that I do have the ability and can acquire the knowledge that I need. And the way you talk is in such a personal and friendly form, I feel like a friend is giving me some tips and some “hurrahs”. Thank you so much!
