The BHP is a chronological retelling of the history of Britain with a particular focus upon the lives of the people. You won’t find a dry recounting of dates and battles here, but instead you’ll learn about who these people were and how their desires, fears, and flaws shaped the scope of this island at the edge of the world. And some of those desires are downright scandalous.

    Begin With A Bang

It was early September of 1087, and for weeks…nearly two months, in fact… people had been discussing William’s impending death, and worrying about what would happen next.  And for good reason. This family, which ruled over Normandy, had a history of infighting and civil wars, especially during times of succession.

Nuanced and compelling

Want to know where the information came from, what got left out, and how that affects what you were spoonfed about history, culture, battles, wealth, merit, religions, and language? This is the one!

High quality and well researched

Excellent podcast. It’s extremely detailed and well researched. Jamie is very clear on what the sources are and explicitly states when the details are just not well known or if sources are contradictory. He and Dr. Zee put a lot of effort into making it entertaining as well as informative with things like theme songs for returning characters and events. Also, sign up for membership! The members only episodes feature conversations about culture at the time and are just fascinating.

Excellent Podcast

I have been listening to this podcast since the beginning. I love it. The detail and research is breathtaking. The humour is right up my street (I’m Canadian but originally from the UK like Jamie, and I look forward to each new release.
