Rachel Maddow Presents: Ultra

I’m a Gen Xer and only knew about Joseph McCarthy as the Red Scare man. Good gracious, he’s so much worse than that. The only thing that saved us from McCarthy was his death, He laid out the path that Trump has followed to the White House and beyond. It was McCarthy and Roy Cohn that set the world up for Trump. There is one degree of freedom between Trump and McCarthy. The thing about fascists is that they are eternally patient, waiting for an opening to restart their plans to enslave people and enrich themselves. It’s important to remember that Nixon, Regan and GHW Bush’s role was damage the Republican Party, to make it so broken that a fascist demagogue like Trump could take over the party. The people that lead these movements need to be punished - within the limits of the law - to help prevent their re-emergence in the future. Thank you to NBC, Rachel Maddow and her team for educating us about McCarthy and his seditious actions. It brings me further comfort that the world has overcome this before.

Bingeing this podcast!! It's so good!! The host has made politics so interesting to me.

After listening to all eight episodes, I am gobsmacked. The parallels between Donald Trump and Joe McCarthy are astonishing. It makes me think that DJT took his entire playbook from Joe McCarthy but it is not DJT that is in charge of it. I have no doubt the puppet master is foreign and the movement is global. I see threads of this being played out in Canada in the Conservative Party. Like the states, provinces are being taken over by the far right, while our last Prime Minister tours the world making friends and encouraging dictators in other countries. Thank you Rachel Maddow for showing us that history tries to repeat itself to fulfill the hateful agenda that failed in the 40s and 50s. As long as we tolerate hate, hoping they will see the light, it will not be put to rest.

Of course I always enjoy anything Rachel does but in this week’s episode on Ultra 2, Rachel said that America won the war (W2). Correction, the Allies won the war. I’m not American but my country lost a lot of men, young men mostly; it turned me off hearing yet again an American taking credit for the success of the Allies. Thank you.
