The creation of peak-standby energy sources based on Siemens gas turbine SGT - 800 units has begun at CHPP-5 in Minsk.
The construction of the new peak- standby capacities is being carried out as part of the implementation of the project to integrate the Belarusian NPP into the country's power system. Peak-standby energy sources are usually used for load leveling in electricity consumption and quick start up in case of blackout to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity to consumers.
Standby sources are made on the basis of high-speed gas turbine units, which can supply nominal rating power to the network in 15 minutes after a cold start.
Now the first phase of peak-standby energy sources construction has begun. Six gas turbine units with a total capacity of 300 MW will be built at the site of CHPP-5 in Minsk.
