    Episode 5: Respectability Politics

    Episode 5: Respectability Politics

    Happy New Year UD family!

In this episode of Unpack dialogues we discuss Respectability Politics. Respectability politics has long been an intrusive form of racial conformity faced by the black community on what is be deemed as acceptable or not acceptable behaviour in other words, what is the standard/norm to be demonstrated in mainstream society.

Our guests speakers discuss different questions surrounding this topic which include:
What does it mean be a respectable black person?
What is *good* Black or *bad* Black - AND in the eyes of who? How has respectability politics define our understanding of the world around us?
