Fearing the worst? No need to worry with Dr Jodi Richardson

Do you worry a lot? Do you know someone who does? If you answered yes to either of these questions you are going to get so much relief from this week's episode.

How we think has a profound impact on how we feel and what we do. Worry can be so very debilitating, bringing with it a gnawing sense of anxiety that disrupts daily activities, saps energy, impairs concentration and genuinely affecting happiness. Worry can also lead to insomnia, fatigue, a weakened immune system and more. There are a lot of downsides to worry, so is it worth our time and energy?

Researchers from Pen State University ran a study to answer the question 'how many worries actually come true?'. In this episode Dr Jodi Richardson shares the surprising findings of this research in addition to practical strategies to help you put worry in its place.

Paperback Therapy: A Conversation with Tammi Miller

Paperback Therapy: A Conversation with Tammi Miller

When life gets hard (and let's face it, that's a lot of the time) it's incredibly helpful to have a mental health professional to talk things through with. Therapists can support us to manage heavy emotions, help us get unstuck, guide us to overcome unhelpful habits, move us towards the goals we have and so much more. If you struggle with anxiety, depression, overwhelm, burnout, boundaries, work or family challenges, a therapist can help. But access isn't always easy. Hurdles in the way of therapy include financial barriers, stigma, scheduling, finding someone who 'gets you', finding someone who's available and not feeling ready to actually sit down in a therapist's chair.

This week's guest, Tammi Miller, wrote Paperback Therapy to bridge the gap between the need for mental health support, and actually sitting down with a therapist. In this conversation Tammi talks with Dr Jodi about the inaccessibility of therapy, the powerful role of a counselling, the book she wrote to offer an affordable alternative if therapy is out of reach for any reason and some of the tools within.

Navigating Nervous System Repair: A Conversation with Jessica Maguire

Navigating Nervous System Repair: A Conversation with Jessica Maguire

The state of our nervous system influences how 'at home' we feel in our body. When we're feeling stressed and anxious we often look outside of ourselves to try and feel better. We might try to control the stress in our life, which isn't always easy to do, or turn to unhelpful coping strategies to help us relax and feel more regulated. Today's episode reveals a better way.

In this conversation globally renowned nervous system educator Jessica Maguire teaches us nervous system fundamentals, what influences the state of our nervous system, how we can coax our nervous system back to a more regulated state using different strategies and more. Jessica helps us understand what's underneath the symptoms we feel and why we respond in different circumstances the way we do. We talk about anxiety, people pleasing, parenting, the Vagus Nerve and how we can repair our own nervous system over time.
