In this episode I discuss the importance of developing a ranking system for races and keeping records to give you an understanding of how well you handicap.  Not only should you be considering how often your A horse wins, but what about your B horse - how often do they win or run second?  Developing a good ranking system and keeping detailed records will help you understand your win percentages and allow you to see what are good races to play and what races you should skip.  Thanks for listening!

This spring I am starting a series of episodes that will focus on the logistics of beating the game.  I'll discuss everything from jockeys to algorithms, money management and a ranking system.  In the first episode of this series, I discuss the importance of understanding how much the track takeout impacts you, the importance of finding value and how rebates can help offset the track takeout.  I give real examples of takeout and the math behind it from actual races and use those as a catalyst to talk about why the game is so hard to beat.  Beating the game encompasses a lot of topics, but it starts with fully understanding how much the track takeout costs you over the long run.

There are very few days each year in racing that offer full fields and inflated pools, but the Breeders' Cup races are among these days.  With so many betting options and horses to handicap it can be a little overwhelming trying to figure out your best plays.  In this episode, I talk about the importance of letting your handicapping uncover your plays based on where you find value.  Finding value is much easier on these big days than just another Saturday at your favorite track.  Planning your day around this value will give you a much better path to success than just continuing to play your favorite bet.
