Step into the World of Martial Arts with Andy Gibney
In the latest episode, we had the immense pleasure of hosting Andy Gibney, a seasoned martial artist whose journey is as captivating as it is inspiring. From the early influences of television heroes like Roger Moore in "The Saint" to the legendary Bruce Lee, Andy's path in martial arts is a testament to passion, dedication, and the relentless pursuit of personal growth.
Andy’s fascination with martial arts began as a young boy, captivated by the dynamic fight scenes on TV and the charisma of stars like Elvis Presley and Bruce Lee. However, it was "Enter the Dragon" that truly ignited his lifelong passion. Despite being too young to watch the film in cinemas, Andy vividly recalls the impact of seeing Bruce Lee’s clips on television, sparking a desire that would shape his future.
Starting with Shotokan Karate, Andy’s martial arts journey was one of exploration and discovery. He trained in various styles, from Tai Chi to Kung Fu, constantly seeking to broaden his understanding and skills. His dedication led him to notable figures in the martial arts world, including Larry Hartsell and Dan Inosanto, who further influenced his path.
A pivotal moment in Andy’s journey was his introduction to Jeet Kune Do, the martial art founded by Bruce Lee. Through seminars and personal training, Andy immersed himself in this philosophy, which emphasizes adaptability and personal expression. His experiences with legendary instructors like Richard Bustillo at the IMB Academy enriched his knowledge and deepened his commitment to martial arts.
But Andy’s story is not just about physical prowess. He speaks passionately about the importance of mental control and personal development. Drawing from his own experiences and the teachings of mentors like Richard Bustillo, Andy emphasizes that true mastery in martial arts extends beyond physical techniques to encompass mental discipline and self-awareness.
Andy’s insights into the evolution of martial arts are profound. He reflects on how traditional practices have adapted to modern needs, highlighting the relevance of personal development, stress relief, and community in today’s training. His approach to teaching, which balances history, technique, and personal growth, offers a holistic view of martial arts that resonates with both seasoned practitioners and newcomers alike.
In this episode, Andy also shares amusing anecdotes from his training days, adding a touch of humour to his rich narrative. From the quirks of early training sessions to the camaraderie of martial arts communities, his stories paint a vivid picture of a life dedicated to the art.
Whether you’re a martial arts enthusiast or someone seeking inspiration, Andy Gibney’s journey offers valuable lessons in perseverance, adaptability, and the power of the human spirit. Tune in to our latest episode to hear his full story and gain insights that could transform your own journey, both in martial arts and in life.

THINK LIKE BRUCE LEE!!! Chris Kent Reveals All
Unlocking Bruce Lee's Mindset: A Journey with Chris Kent
Have you ever wondered what it takes to think like Bruce Lee? Chris Kent, a renowned martial artist and Jeet Kune Do (JKD) expert in conversation with Andrew Staton, takes us on an enlightening journey into the philosophies and mental strategies that shaped Bruce Lee's life. This episode is a treasure trove of insights for anyone interested in personal growth and self-improvement.
Chris Kent has spent decades studying and teaching JKD, and his latest book, "How to Think Like Bruce Lee," is a culmination of his life's work. But don't be fooled by the title—it's not about mimicking Bruce Lee's thoughts. Instead, it's about applying his philosophical principles to your own life. As Chris puts it, "It's not about thinking the same thoughts as Bruce Lee, because that's an impossibility. It's got nothing to do with that. It's about you and yourself."
One of the most compelling aspects of this episode is how Chris breaks down the core tenets of Bruce Lee's philosophical perspective. He delves into the mental strategies and foundational principles that Bruce used in all aspects of his life, from martial arts to personal development. Chris emphasizes that JKD is not just about fighting; it's a holistic approach to life. "Jeet Kune Do is an art. It's a philosophy. It's a state of being," he says.
Chris has also expanded his teachings into a YouTube channel, aptly named "Think Like Bruce Lee." The channel serves as a platform for casual yet profound conversations about JKD principles and their applications in everyday life. From purposeful movement to mental training, Chris covers a wide range of topics aimed at personal growth. "I'm making them for people who are seriously interested in their own personal growth," he notes.
The episode also touches on Chris's consultancy work, where he applies JKD principles to help individuals and businesses achieve peak performance. Whether it's technical issues, curriculum design, or creating a JKD culture, Chris's consultancy aims to transmit the DNA of JKD to those who seek it.
One of the highlights of the episode is Chris's recounting of his TEDx talk, where he discussed a whole new approach to learning and living, inspired by JKD principles. The talk was a testament to how Bruce Lee's philosophy can be a catalyst for personal transformation.
As you listen to this episode, you'll find yourself inspired to apply these timeless principles to your own life. Whether you're a martial artist or someone seeking personal growth, the wisdom shared by Chris Kent offers valuable insights that can help you become a more effective, productive, and creative individual.
So, if you're ready to unlock the secrets of Bruce Lee's mindset and embark on a journey of self-improvement, this episode is a must-listen. Tune in and discover how to think like Bruce Lee!
