EPISODE 182: Phil Silvers: Burlesque, Broadway, Banana and Bilko With Steve Everitt the Co-owner/Founder of the Phil Silvers Archival Museum

    INTERVIEW BEGINS AT : 35:55

Welcome back to our series on classic comedians, and this time we honor the life and career of the great Phil Silvers, who is as big as ever, in the UK??? Sadly he is grossly underappreciated and somewhat forgotten in his home land of the USA.

Phil Silvers was a comic who did it all and conquered it all, from his early days of vaudeville and burlesque, to Hollywood, to Broadway, to TV super stardom, BACK to Hollywood and Broadway, Phil Silvers dominated every field of comedy.

Silvers starred In Broadway classics like High Button Shoes, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to The Forum and his signature role of Jerry Biffle in the timeless hit Top Banana. In film he was in movies like 40 Pounds of Trouble, Follow That Camel and the classic It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, but it is probably his stint on TV as Master Sgt Ernie Bilko that Silvers will forever be associated with, Silvers character of Sgt. Bilko has left a lasting impression on comedy on both sides of the Atlantic.

Today we discuss the life and career of this legendary funnyman with Mr. Steve Everitt, a life long Silvers fan who co-founded the Phil Silvers Archival Museum and owner of the store Sgt. Bilko's Vintage Emporium. check out his store and museum and the Phil Silvers Archival Museum

We are so thrilled to be joined today by historian, activist and Museum professional Dr. Jacqueline Patrice Hudson PHD to discuss how Black history is American history and how Black culture is American culture. A subject that has been and remains far to overlooked in American education.

And Dr. Hudson is also, much like us, a true pop culture nerd, so we get to discuss quite a bit of that as well, it was an amazing time with an amazing woman, and her message should be heard by everyone, no matter your race.

The study of Jack the Ripper and the WhiteChapel murders, known as Ripperology, is a phenomenon in this era of true crime, but has been a global obsession for many decades, and one of the few things most "Ripperologist" will agree on, is Paul Begg is one of the most important names in the field. From his groundbreaking research, and legendary books such as Jack The Ripper : The (Uncensored) Facts, Jack The Ripper The Definitive History, The Scotland Yard Files, and of course Jack The Ripper A to Z (With Keith Skinner and Martin Fido).

Paul Begg is not only a researcher, writer and historian, but also my personal hero, and the man who made me want to be a writer and historian. It is indeed my unbelievable honor to be able to now call my hero my friend! and you are about to hear two friends having a chat, I hope you enjoy!

And as an added bonus!!!!! Our favorite Movie Star, Rad Chad himself of Scare Package I and II fame, the outstanding Jeremy King fills in for a vacationing Lauren and joins me as a special co-host!!!
