Hi, I’m Dax Shepard, and I love talking to people. I am endlessly fascinated by the messiness of being human, and I find people who are vulnerable and honest about their struggles and shortcomings to be incredibly sexy. I invite you to join me as I explore other people’s stories. We will celebrate, above all, the challenges and setbacks that ultimately lead to growth and betterment. What qualifies me for such an endeavor? More than a decade of sobriety, a degree in Anthropology and four years of improv training. I will attempt to discover human “truths” without any laboratory work, clinical trials or data collection. I will be, in the great tradition of 16th-century scientists, an Armchair Expert.

    Flightless Bird: Bubba Gumps

In this week’s Flightless Bird, David Farrier goes to eat at iconic American restaurant chain the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Back in 1994, Forest Gump was box office gold - the highest grossing film in America that year. Forrest Gump also did something not many films have ever done - something truly magical - it leapt out into real life. Because on any day of the week in America, you can stroll directly into a restaurant that wouldn't exist without Forrest Gump: The Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. To learn about all things Gump, Farrier talks with David Chen from decodingeverything.com who breaks down the significance of the film. He then takes producer Rob to dine in style at Bubba Gumps, before talking to the Vice President & COO of the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Jenny Scharbrough. That's right, Jenny!

Anti-Israel Propaganda from my former favourite podcast

Armchair Expert started my love for podcasts. I listened to every single show, but I can't support and listen to it as long as Liz Plank is in any way affiliated to it. Her essay, her Instagram post, her tweets are either tone death, ignorant and un informed or anti-semitic in the most evil form, cause it's subtle and from a point of moral high ground.

Never expected this from a show that's supposed to be so open minded and mindful of every other cause. But when it comes to anti-semitism, they have put on blinders.

Unkind interviewer

Dax had a chance to show understanding, compassion, and grace to Jonathan Van Ess and the trans community in a time of policy weaponized against trans people. Instead he decided to play “the devils advocate” and grill JVN with right-wing talking points. The devil does not need any more advocates. He had the chance to ask about and believe JVNs experience and advocacy, but instead he pushed his own opinions to the point of making his guest cry. I wish this host and all the people with opinions about trans people would shut up and realize their opinions and concerns don’t matter. The lives of trans people do. It was clear that DS had no experience with trans people or interest in their survival. If he had, he would have put reflected on his own discomfort, interviewed JVN withe kind curiosity, and kept his harmful opinions to himself. As ALOK says, trans people don’t owe anyone understanding. They do deserve to be treated as human without defending their right to be. I hope this host apologized to JVN and the trans community for his horrible interview.
