I'll be discussing skill acquisition, youth sports paradigms, positive sports psychology, ideal parent and coaching roles.

Every podcast episode will have specific topics, and related material based on the NEEDS of our youth sports participation as it pertains to the sports-life balance. And how to make every experience magical and not tragical. I will do my best to be researched based, talk on my own experiences, and bring forth topics that are RELEVANT to you.

The mission is to change the world. You down? ARE YOU DOWN? Well, what are you doing down there, get up, we got work to do.

7 Mistakes parents make...and perspectives on how to avoid them.

7 Mistakes parents make...and perspectives on how to avoid them.

It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it right?  That's why I've categorized these as "mistakes" because they are the most rampant situations parents, players, and coaches deal with that don't seem to be going away.  How can we move past them? Let's discuss and figure it out together.  7 Mistakes are:

    1) Early SPECIALIZATION

    2) Afraid of FAILURE

    3) Switching teams TOO MANY TIMES

    4) Not PRIORITIZING FUN

    5) Lacking support of OTHER KIDS

    6) Not building a relationship with the COACH

    7) Putting too much pressure on PERFORMANCE.

    Development isn't just "working out".

    Development isn't just "working out".

Planning and prioritizing are essential pieces that most players, coaches, and trainers miss because it is WORK.  It is a thought and organizational process that takes time.  I guarantee if you are willing to put in the time YOU will have an advantage over those who do not.  I have laid out some ideas on how YOU can use this formula to understand HOW you should spend your days with a basketball.  If you don't know what you're working towards...figure it out, then get to work.

    Winning GAMES versus Developing SKILL

    Winning GAMES versus Developing SKILL

Youth basketball coaches number ONE dilemma.  Do I win games now and make the parents happy, or do I develop players for their future and risk making parents go "boo hoo".  If you know me you know I stand on the side of developing our youth.  Having them go through the processes necessary for individual success.  But like with everything it is a choice.  Parents must do a good job of seeing the big picture and understanding the negative long term implications of the "win-now" mentality.  True success is NOT short term.  Put your feelings aside and place your validation in the effort your child is giving towards reaching their goals.  Winning games WILL come.  Relax!

    Set some Goals why dontcha

    Set some Goals why dontcha

Goal setting is the most important yet most often overlooked part of skill development.  Spend time with setting some specific goals and make time to revisit them time and time again.  This is a huge way to get ahead in the game!   Don't waste any time.  While you are at it, make some time to look in the mirror and tell yourself how awesome you are.  Do it everyday until you believe it!  Get fixated on your goals and greatness.

    I believe in YOU!

    Separation Season

What does it mean to separate yourself?  It is a cliche in the basketball world that I hear alot of coaches and players say.."SEPARATION SEASON" but how do you know you are separating?  I've laid out four ways to put yourself on a path towards your goals.  As always these opinions expressed are completely my own and I WELCOME conversation with arms as open as the can of vienna sausage your holding in your hand.
