META PERFORMANCE SHOW | In this episode of the Meta Performance Show, Jason Jaggard sits down with co-founder of Octone records, David Boxenbaum, who has acted as an executive, advisor, and investor at the intersection of music and tech for more than 25 years.
The two discuss the origins of his record label, how different the music industry was then compared to now and the story of how he found a little band we now know as Maroon 5. Before they go into David’s music career, they also dive into David’s work serving on the board of Defy Ventures, training people with criminal histories to develop their entrepreneurship skills and character to become contributing members of society after they’ve served their time. They explore David’s thoughts on networking and how he acquired an interview with one of the most prestigious management companies in the world solely through making and leveraging connections.
And before wrapping up, David answers some questions from our coaches at Novus Global who are currently working with musicians, giving some indispensable advice for anyone out there looking to make it in whichever business their passion lies, and we end by hearing about a conversation he had with Beyonce and Jay Z.
