Gerard Schaefer was a former deputy sheriff from Martin County, Florida, convicted of murder for the double homicide of two teenagers in 1972 in Port St Lucie, Florida. The press also dubbed him The Hangman because he liked to bind his victims to trees using a hangman's noose.
