Episode 9: ”Compassion Fatigue & Burnout with ’The Burnout Doctor” - guest Dr Claire Ashley, GP from the UK Life Of A Doctor

    • Karriere

Welcome to a new series about compassion fatigue and burnout where i will be speaking to a number of doctors about their journey and tips on recognising and recovering from these.
This is a topic not often talked about in the medical field. It is somewhat of a taboo to admit that you are experiencing this, where the response is often met with 'just keep going' 'care less' 'forget about it' 'take a long weekend'. The truth is...none of this works...and in fact it just makes it worse.
In the episode i am so excited to have Dr Claire Ashley on the show. She was the first doctor to introduce me to the concept of compassion fatigue and burnout. We discuss the differences between compassion fatigue and burnout, our own journeys, what helped us, what she discovered through years of researching into the field due to the sheer lack of any readily available information. She covers the steps of recovery and pathophysiology of burnout. One of the books she recommends in this podcast is called "The Happiness Trap" by Dr Russ Harris.
Dr Ashley has also created an evidence based course called 'Beat Burnout' of which sounds incredible, and she discusses course details at the end of the podcast.
I hope you find this podcast useful. Please like and share if you found this helpful.
