Hello and Welcome Everyone!
I'm so excited to share this podcast with you :-)
My name is Dr Lucinda, I'm a General Practitioner from the UK, currently working in Sydney, Australia.
Ever since applying to work abroad I've been thinking about hosting a podcast to collate the stories of doctors around the world and share journeys and experiences.
This podcast will cover topics from premed through to specialization, and topics that affect doctors inside and outside the workplace.
Medical careers can be far more diverse than one thinks and there are some pretty inspirational doctors out there that have broken the mold and help path the way for other doctors to think about doing the same.
There are also a lot of topics that affect medics inside and outside the workplace that are left largely unspoken and this platform is aimed to help us connect and share those thoughts and experiences together.

Episode 12 - Compassion Fatigue and Burnout with Dr Maryjka Kozlowski, GP and skin cancer doctor, Sydney Australia

Welcome to a new series about compassion fatigue and burnout where i will be speaking to a number of doctors about their journey and tips on recognition and recovery.
In this episode I have had the pleasure of speaking with Dr Maryjka Kozlowski, a General Practitioner based in Sydney, Australia. We deep dive into our experiences with compassion fatigue and burnout. Dr Kozlowski shares some really helpful tips on how she and her practice managed it. The way in which we practice medicine and manage practices needs a change...and hopefully with these kind of discussions we can raise awareness and create a better outcome for staff and patients.

Episode 11 - ”You’re not ready for counselling” - Compassion fatigue and Burnout with GP Dr Kimberley Doolan

Episode 11 - ”You’re not ready for counselling” - Compassion fatigue and Burnout with GP Dr Kimberley Doolan

Welcome to a new series about compassion fatigue and burnout where i will be speaking to a number of doctors about their journey and tips on recognition and recovery.
In this episode I have had the pleasure of speaking with Dr Kimberly Doolan, a General Practitioner based in England, UK. This was such a wholesome sharing of events between the two of us, and i certainly felt a sense of relief and appreciation for all that Dr Kimberly shared.
As GP’s we can often feel that we are responsible for our patients not being able to access us when they want to, or guilty if we can't see them. Through her counseling she was reminded how it isn’t our fault that there is not enough capacity to satisfy demand, and i thought that was a beautiful reminder.
Dr Kimberly mentions a incredible service for doctors working in London called the 'Practitioner Health Programme', of which she reached out when experiencing symptoms of compassion fatigue and burnout. She had an interesting experience whereby she didn't quite get the management she was expecting, but instead was advised to take several weeks off work and then go into counselling later on.
Her story is an inspiring one and i thoroughly enjoyed our conversation. We hope that the experiences shared in this podcast can help others going through these experiences and can offer insight as a form of prevention.
You can find Dr Doolan on instagram @doctorkimberley. She has a very informative page and is a total meme queen.
If you are a doctor and are interested in being a guest on the show, please get in touch, it would be lovely to hear from you. Or, if you are a psychologist trained in burnout / compassion fatigue interested in being a guest to discuss these topics please also get in touch :-)

Episode 9: ”Compassion Fatigue & Burnout with ’The Burnout Doctor” - guest Dr Claire Ashley, GP from the UK

Episode 9: ”Compassion Fatigue & Burnout with ’The Burnout Doctor” - guest Dr Claire Ashley, GP from the UK

Welcome to a new series about compassion fatigue and burnout where i will be speaking to a number of doctors about their journey and tips on recognising and recovering from these.
This is a topic not often talked about in the medical field. It is somewhat of a taboo to admit that you are experiencing this, where the response is often met with 'just keep going' 'care less' 'forget about it' 'take a long weekend'. The truth is...none of this works...and in fact it just makes it worse.
In the episode i am so excited to have Dr Claire Ashley on the show. She was the first doctor to introduce me to the concept of compassion fatigue and burnout. We discuss the differences between compassion fatigue and burnout, our own journeys, what helped us, what she discovered through years of researching into the field due to the sheer lack of any readily available information. She covers the steps of recovery and pathophysiology of burnout. One of the books she recommends in this podcast is called "The Happiness Trap" by Dr Russ Harris.
Dr Ashley has also created an evidence based course called 'Beat Burnout' of which sounds incredible, and she discusses course details at the end of the podcast.
I hope you find this podcast useful. Please like and share if you found this helpful.
