Richard Marshall & Johnny Cassell - The Short Cuts To Growing A Grooming Empire Johnny Cassell

    • Bildung

Hey listeners,

Not only is this week’s guest a fantastic entrepreneur, but also a good friend of mine, Richard Marshall.

Richard started his journey into barbering when he was just 12, sweeping the floor of the local barbers. By the age of 21, he was building a loyal clientele working just off Savile Row.

At 28, Richard bought a small, unassuming shop just off Trafalgar Square. This would become the Pall Mall Barbers, a name now synonymous with high quality barber services and men’s grooming.

Pall Mall Barbers is the biggest independent barbers in London, with the most awards to its name than any other.

He has since expanded his business not just within London but internationally. He now has 6 shops in London, 1 in Birmingham and 1 in New York City.

Pall Mall Barbers even has its own award-winning line of men’s grooming products.

Richard may now be an international entrepreneur but he started from humble beginnings. We can all learn a lot from his story about starting, running, and expanding a business to help us overcome our own challenges in life.

Not only that, but his wisdom regarding men’s grooming built up over decades of experience is invaluable, and I was lucky enough to grab him for the show.

In this podcast, you’ll hear some incredible insights into the following areas:

- His personal journey from sweeping hair in a local barbers to owning the biggest independent barbers in London
- The many difficulties of expanding a business internationally and how to overcome them
- How business is different in London compared to New York City
- The challenges faced by his business during the time of the pandemic and how a business can prepare and steel itself in times of crisis
- How the pandemic has changed the rules of men’s grooming
- Achieving a global brand
- His wackiest request ever received from a client
- How to choose the best products for you
- Which items every man should have in his personal grooming kit
- The secret of attracting consistent, good publicity
- His love for MMA and UFC
- Men’s mental health
- Which royal paid a visit to one of Richard’s stores and why
- Why sitting in the barber’s chair may double up as a therapy session
- How to both cope and combat hair loss
- And much more

I hope you got as much out of listening to this conversation as much as I got from being part of it.
