CVW ep. 17 - Will Novak Be The New Fed‪?‬ Cam's Varied Week - CVW

    • Comedy

Hello, hello! ¡Hola! We're on the fifth episode now! Alright, no more U2 references. This episode really shows my mixed feelings on Novak's (more likely than not at this point) claim of the Tennis Kingdom. He has done so many great things to bring him to where he is now, but he will never be recognized as the same, dominant player Federer or Nadal was due to his being behind the two for so long. Most of his big accomplishments are coming close to what appears to be (but hopefully isn't) the end of their primes/careers, and it takes a lot of the wind out of the sails knowing how close it was to two legendary players who are just starting to turn towards their later stages. His career record across all tournaments and surfaces against them started off poorly, but his longevity has allowed him to overtake both head-to-head career records. He has now won all the majors multiple times where Fed and Rafa are one Major short (Fed - Roland Garros; Rafa - Australian), but he lost his "primetime" matchups ('07 USOF - Fed; '09 USOSF - Fed; '10 USOF - Rafa; all RGF - Rafa;) when both players were still considered either prime or on the rise. Djokovic did have great years once the double digit years came around ('10-'19), but it was largely him capitalizing on Fed and Rafa upsets or injuries. What does help show that all 3 are incredible tennis players and humans too, neither Fed nor Novak have won a Roland Garros title against Rafa. No matter what, I'm not necessarily excited about Djokovic being the new "Title King", but I definitely respect what he does and what he's had to go through to get here.
