DevOps is a tricky concept. It make the two words seem equal but the goal of a small business or solo entrepreneur who is trying to build a product or internal application is not to spend half the budget on Ops.

As developers, especially those who freelance and work one on one with clients we sometimes have to help that client understand what we expect of them as a "Product Owner".

Whether you are working Waterfall, or Agile we still need to quote out the time it will take for new features . We still need to give the product owners, or the people with the money, a sense of timing. And it is this skill or lack thereof that drives the experience we are going to have when we code.
