An imprisoned communist revolutionary, Nikolai Salmanovich Rubashov, accounts his life as he awaits a show trail for his life. Arthur Koestler, a former communist party member based many of the events and scenarios in Darkness at Noon on 1930's communist party events and people but never uses actual names.
