Career lessons from the iconic Godfather Part 2 movie: How Fredo Corleone could have saved himself and become a boss
I recently re-watched The Godfather Part 2, one of my favorite movies, and realized there are many career lessons to be learned from the character Fredo Corleone's fatal blunder. In this episode, I'll start by providing a brief background on The Godfather and Fredo Corleone for context. Then, I'll talk about what I think are important, universal career lessons from Fredo's mistake that could help us grow including (1) avoiding the attribute trap, i.e., don't let your attributes like job title prevent you from doing what it takes to make smart career moves, (2) understanding your strengths and how you can leverage them, and (3) pursuing landscape shifts to identify new opportunities for you to succeed in. I'll also discuss some examples where I've encountered and applied these lessons over the years.
