As the year was drawing (thank God) to a close we here at Purple City decided to take time to reflect so, decamping to a log cabin in rural North Norfolk, Matthew & Ashley sat down to chop it up on the highs and (dizzying) lows of 2019. From the release of Jabru's sterling debut album Ill Conceived and the boys favourite drops from other labels to celebrity sex offenders and Ant & Dec's Alien Autopsy the only stones left unturned were largely the ones with genuine nuggets of 2019 cultural gold. Well done boys!

Sonic Waffle makes (yet another) comeback and this episode Bayfield sat down with drum & bass vocal mainstay (and former D&BA colleague) Visionobi for a round-the-house chat about whatever pops up after drinking five pints apiece in under two hours... needless to say the conversation went miles off topic covering everything from working in the music industry and the role of the MC in d&b culture to ranking all the Star Wars and how little we actually know about Brexit. Bayfield decamped to Brighton for episode four of Sonic Waffle,  linking up with our debut signing, master of break chopping and all-round Cosmic B-Boy Etch.

As is standard on The Waffle topics ranged from the insightful to the inciting as  Bayfield and Etch covered everything from Etch’s debut album Ups & Downs and the  importance of physical possessions in a digital age, to Starship Troopers 3 and a brief history of hardcore music.

In a rare change of pace Sonic Waffle manages to limp back into your life for its SECOND (count ’em) episode of total nonsense in under  twelve calendar months… well, sort of. Ruckspin actually insisted he returned to basically correct every chunk of sizzling drivel he and Bayfield managed to spout in episode two. Call it episode three. Call it episode two point five. Call it what you want really, just don’t call  us when it all ends in tears.

This week the gang actually attempt to  cover some real, hard hitting topics of conversation including Ruckspin’s early childhood as a member of the Von Trapp family, the attempted kidnapping of Joss Stone in early 2011, a potted history of Leeds D&B and the multiple times Dom has pretended to be DJs other than himself in order to secure bookings and / or a bed for the night.

Sonic Waffle makes its shambolic return and this time we’ve got Dom Howard aka Ruckspin aka the man who makes all the Submotion Orchestra  albums sound so voluptuous… This one is without a doubt the messiest yet as Bayfield and Ruckspin made the frankly foolish decision to spend the  day in the pub watching the World Cup before recording. It seemed to be going so well that apparently "the football" was coming home, however this meant that both focused conversation and narrative coherence absolutely were not anywhere near their usual places of residence… but then we suppose our show doesn’t have Waffle in the title for nothing.
